England have rested all-rounder Ben Stokes and star batsman Joe Root for this upcoming T20 international series and have brought in five uncapped players – Liam Livingstone, Tom Curran, Dawid Malan, Craig Overton and Mason Crane.
Jos Buttler has a fifty in the two T20s he has played at the Rose Bowl. He is averaging 100 here and he will be the key in England’s batting. Eoin Morgan had a good Champions Trophy and there will be expectations on him too. Liam Dawson has three wickets in the only T20 at this ground and the left arm spinner will play a vital role for England when it comes to bowling.
England have neither been very impressive nor too bad in the shortest format of the game in recent times. They have won six and lost four of their previous ten T20 internationals. Their most recent series came in India earlier this year where they were beaten 1-2 by the hosts in a three-match series.
South Africa have rested the likes of Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy for this series. Reeza Hendricks, Mangaliso Mosehle, Jon-Jon Smuts and Tabraiz Shamsi have been drafted into the squad.
Though AB de Villiers has been out of form for a while, he is still one of the most destructive batsmen in the world when it comes to T20 cricket. He is the second-highest run getter for South Africa in this format and the team will hope that he finds his form back in this game. Imran Tahir and Morne Morkel are two of the most successful bowlers for the side in the 20-overs format and the two will pose the biggest challenge to the English batters.
South Africa will not be too happy with how they have performed in 20-overs cricket of late, winning just four of their last ten matches. They last played a T20 international against New Zealand at Auckland which they won by 78 runs.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat.
England won by 9 wickets (with 33 balls remaining).
Player of the match: JM Bairstow (England).
Series: England led the 3-match series 1-0.
