2nd T20I 2017: England vs South Africa
England: EJG Morgan*, JM Bairstow, SW Billings, JC Buttler†, MS Crane, TK Curran, LA Dawson, AD Hales, CJ Jordan, LS Livingstone, DJ Malan, C Overton, LE Plunkett, JJ Roy, DJ Willey, MA Wood
South Africa: AB de Villiers*, F Behardien, RR Hendricks, Imran Tahir, DA Miller, M Morkel, CH Morris, M Mosehle, WD Parnell, D Paterson, AL Phehlukwayo, D Pretorius, T Shamsi, JT Smuts
Mark Wood was available only for the first game and he has been released by the team to play for his county. Allrounder Craig Overton is likely to replace the fast bowler for the remaining two T20 internationals.
Jonny Bairstow exhibited fine form with an unbeaten 60 off just 35 balls in the first game. Alex Hales too looked in good nick with a well made 47. England will want these two batsmen to replicate their performance in the second game as well. In the absence of Mark Wood, England’s bowling will depend mainly on their senior pro Chris Jordan and David Willey. While Willey will look to go for early wickets, Jordan’s role would be to keep things tight.
England’s nine-wicket win over South Africa the other night was their second win in the four T20 internationals they have played so far this year. Since 2016, England have played three matches in this format at home and have won two of them.
The South African team selectors, at the time of writing, did not announce any changes in their lineup for this upcoming fixture. However, there are speculations that Morne Morkel and Chris Morris could be brought in place of Dwaine Pretorius and Tabraiz Shamsi.
AB de Villiers has finally hit form after a series of underwhelming performances. The South African skipper cracked a fifty in the first T20 and he will be expected to continue with his regained form. Farhaan Behardien too smashed a quickfire 64 and looks set for another big knock come Friday. Imran Tahir will be the key man with the ball for South Africa. The legspinner was quite expensive at Southampton but he will be backed by his team to bounce back with his wicket-taking ways.
South Africa have now lost three of their previous four T20 internationals. They will be highlydisappointed with their bowling performance in the last game where they managed to dismiss just one of the English batsmen.
England won the toss and elected to bowl.
South Africa won by 3 runs.
Player of the match: CH Morris (South Africa).
Series: 3-match series level 1-1.
