Preview:

Kane Williamson is New Zealand’s best batsman and is currently hitting top form with scores of 100 and 87 in the first two games. He is averaging 56.66 at this ground in ODIs and is the most important figure in the Kiwi batting lineup. Ross Taylor has an aggregate of 85 runs from the two matches so far and the team will want him to get a big one against Bangladesh. Adam Milne has taken five wickets already in the tournament – two against Australia and three in the last game against England. New Zealand will rely on this fast bowler to land some early blows on Bangladesh.

New Zealand will be disappointed with their bowling effort at the death in their last game against England as they allowed the hosts to pile up 310 after having them at 260-7. They eventually lost the match by 87 runs and it was their second consecutive ODI defeat since winning three in a row in the Ireland Tri Nation Series.

Bangladesh’s performance with the bat is going to depend mainly on how well Tamim Iqbal bats. The opener seems to be undergoing terrific form having scored 128 against England and 95 against a strong Australian attack. Mushfiqur Rahim looked good in his knock of 79 in the first game and it is crucial for the team’s chances that he fires in this must-win match. Mashrafe Mortaza has decent figures of 1-33 in his only game at the Sophia Gardens. The skipper bowled well against England too and he will be the key bowler for Bangladesh in this match.

Bangladesh had a lucky escape in their previous outing against Australia as the washout resulted in sharing of points between the two teams. They now have three wins and as many defeats in the six ODIs they have played so far this year.
