Shikhar Dhawan has an unbeaten hundred in the only game he has played at the Kennington Oval. The opener will be coming off an impressive fifty against Pakistan and will be one of the key batsmen for India. Virat Kohli also smashed a quickfire 81* in that game and there will be huge expectations from him as well. Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja were the standout performers with the ball. The latter has seven wickets from two matches at this ground and he will be relied upon heavily when it comes to bowling.
India have now won four of their last five one-day internationals and three of the last four they have played so far this year. They displayed a strong batting and bowling performance against Pakistan but the same cannot be said about their fielding as they dropped a couple of catches and conceded runs where they shouldn’t have.
Bad news for the Sri Lankan team is that their stand-in skipper Upul Tharanga has been suspended for two matches due to the team’s slow over-rate in the game against South Africa. Good news is that Angelo Mathews has been declared fit and will be leading the team in this match. He, however, will not be available as a bowling option.
Niroshan Dickwella batted well for his 33-ball 41 against South Africa and the team will want him to provide the innings with a good start. Angelo Mathews is back. His presence will bring stability in the middle order and he can be very difficult to stop once set. Nuwan Pradeep claimed the prized scalps of de Kock and du Plessis in the last game. The fast bowler was also quite economical and Sri Lanka will have high hopes on him for making early inroads into the Indian batting lineup.
Sri Lanka have been very disappointing in this format of the game with just one win in the eight matches this year, and that too against minnows Bangladesh. Against the top ranked teams, they have suffered big defeats just like the one in their last game against South Africa.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl.
Sri Lanka won by 7 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
Player of the match: BKG Mendis (Sri Lanka)
