Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler are the pillars of Rajasthan’s batting. Samson is second on the IPL 2018 runs charts with a strike rate of about 155. He has scored only nine runs in the last two games but he could make up for that with a strong performance on Sunday night. Buttler has scored in 20s in his last four innings and a big knock from him could be just around the corner. With Jaydev Unadkat not looking in rhythm, the Royals’ bowling will depend mainly on Ben Laughlin and Shreyas Gopal. The latter has been the team’s best bowler with five wickets and economy rate of under 6 and he seems more likely to trouble the Mumbai batsmen with his leg-spin.
Rajasthan Royals are placed fifth on the IPL 2018 points table with two wins and three losses from five league matches. Their heavy 64-run defeat in the last game against the Chennai Super Kings was their second defeat in two games. Prior to that, the Royals suffered a seven-wicket loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders.
Wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan was struck by the ball near the eye in the last game against RCB. While he may not be ruled out of the tournament, he could be replaced by Aditya Tare if he fails to recover in time for this match. JP Duminy looks set to replace Kieron Pollard who has not been able to make much of an impact with the bat.
Rohit Sharma returned to form with a blistering 52-ball 94 in the last game against RCB while Evin Lewis was also impressive in his knock of 65. While both these batsmen will be the key for MI at the top, JP Duminy and Hardik Pandya will be the team’s biggest hopes down the order. When it comes to bowling, the onus will once again be on Jasprit Bumrah to keep things tight during the powerplay as well as at the death. While Mitchell McClenaghan and Mustafizur Rahman are also quality bowlers in the side, the bigger threat however will be leg-spinner Mayank Markande who is the season’s leading wicket-taker with eight wickets.
After facing defeats in their first three matches, Mumbai Indians finally managed to open their account on the points table with a comprehensive 46-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last game. They are currently sixth on the IPL 2018 leaderboard with one win and three losses from four matches.
Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians Prediction:
Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians are both positioned in the bottom half of the league standings and they will be desperate to earn a couple of points in this game. The former have the advantage of playing on their home ground where other teams have found it very difficult to overcome them in the past. But their record against Mumbai has not been that great; they have managed to win just six out of sixteen matches in the tournament which includes four defeats in their last five head-to-head encounters. The Royals will also be down on confidence after facing defeats in their last two games and so the scales seem to tip in favor of the Mumbai Indians.
