Preview:

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Alex Hales made his first start of the 2018 IPL in the win against Rajasthan Royals, and after a big second-wicket partnership with captain Kane Williamson the England batsman is likely to continue at the top of the order. Mohammad Nabi was the man to make way, and with Sunrisers back in the runs with their re-arranged batting order they may go unchanged for the game against Delhi Daredevils.

Economical bowling has been key to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s form this season, with Rashid Khan impressing with the ball – his three wickets across two games against Mumbai Indians cost him just 24 runs from his eight overs. Last time out, Sandeep Sharma took 1/15 and Siddarth Kaul’s 2/23 took him to 11 wickets in this year’s competition. With the bat, Kane Williamson has led the way – his four half-centuries are the joint-highest in the competition and he has 322 runs from eight innings in total. Alex Hales hit 45 from 39 balls in the win against Rajasthan Royals on his first IPL appearance this year, meanwhile.

Sunrisers Hyderabad started this year’s IPL with three wins and, after back-to-back defeats in between, have won three in a row again to move top of the table. Sunrisers defended just 118 in a 31-run win against Mumbai Indians, while they posted 132/6 in their 13-run defeat of Kings XI Punjab. Last time out they scored more heavily, posting 151/7 against Rajasthan Royals, before Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma’s economical bowling helped them to an 11-run victory.

Delhi Daredevils:

England all-rounder Liam Plunkett’s place could be in danger after another wicketless and expensive match against Rajasthan Royals last time out. He went for 0/37 from three overs, having been smashed for 52 from three overs against the Chennai Super Kings. Dan Christian is one possible replacement. Jason Roy has missed out recently with a side strain, meanwhile, playing just three times in this year’s tournament. Gautam Gambhir has not played since resigning the captaincy.

Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant have been in top form with the bat this year. Pant is second behind Ambati Rayudu in the race for the orange cap after bludgeoning 375 from nine innings so far – his strike rate of more than 180 is bettered only by AB de Villiers out of the top ten run scorers. He has scored 79 from 45 balls and 69 from just 29 balls to top score in each of the last two matches. Iyer, meanwhile, has hit four half-centuries on his way to 307 runs so far. He has stepped up as captain in Gautam Gambhir’s place and scored exactly 50 in the defeat of Rajasthan Royals last time out. Glenn Maxwell is yet to show his best form, but Trent Boult returned an economical 2-26 from three overs in the last game.

Delhi Daredevils have won two of their last three matches, beating Rajasthan Royals by four runs (DLS method) in a rain-affected game last time out, having posted 219/4 when they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 55 runs in their previous home game before that. In between, however, they were hit for 211/4 against Chennai Super Kings and fell 13 runs short in reply despite Rishabh Plant’s big hitting.

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Daredevils Prediction:

Sunrisers Hyderabad are in good form, bowling economically and scoring well through the likes of Kane Williamson. Delhi have improved in the last few games, but Sunrisers Hyderabad should have enough to maintain their current winning streak.
