The 12th match of the ICC World Cup 2019 was played between England and Bangladesh .
It was just another day at the office for the English batsmen, who once again managed to put on a huge score on the board and their bowlers did exactly what was needed to help them register their second win. With this win, England moved to the top half of the table and only Australia and New Zealand registered 2 or more wins besides them.
It was a confusing toss for both sides seeing some greenery on the track and eventually, Bangladesh decided to field first. It did prove to be a good decision for the first five overs where the ball was moving a little bit. But once Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow settled in, they started hammering the bowlers to all parts.
Shakib scores another World Cup ton
Roy began to accelerate and looked firmly in contention for a double ton. In the 35th over, he hit three sixes off Mehidy Hasan’s first three balls to complete 150 and off the fourth ball, he went for another one and got caught at covers. Buttler continued the onslaught on his behalf alongside Eoin Morgan as the duo chipped in with a brilliant 95-run stand for the 4th wicket.
Buttler completed a fantastic half-century and was dismissed for a 44-ball 64, but Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett chipped in with a couple of outstanding cameos which saw England notch 386 runs on the board. Mehidy Hasan and Saifuddin picked up two wickets each for the Tigers.
One of the craziest moments of the game came very early on when Jofra Archer smashed the top of Soumya Sarkar’s off-stump and the cherry went over the keeper and over the boundary. It was a breathtaking start for the English and Tamim Iqbal too was struggling to find his way. He tried to break the shackles with a wayward swing, which saw him get caught at covers.
Shakib Al Hasan had the responsibility on shoulders to carry the Tigers forward, which he did quite brilliantly. He and Mushfiqur Rahim got along very well and they stitched a much-needed partnership. They weren’t going by the required rate, but they still were going at a decent pace.
Once Shakib was dismissed for a 119-ball 121, Mosaddek Hossain chipped in with a small cameo but that didn’t help them go any place. Mark Wood and Ben Stokes did a lot of damage towards the end as Bangladesh were eventually restricted for 280 runs, with Jofra Archer finishing things with two wickets in the 49th over.
